Nirmala Sitharaman Family & Early life

Nirmala Sitharaman, born on August 18, 1959, in a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family. Her father Narayanan Sitharaman, worked as an employee in the Indian Railways, while her mother Savitri Sitharaman was a housewife. She received her early education at the Sacred Heart Convent Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu.

After completing schooling, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in economics from Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College in Tiruchirappalli. She later went on to get a master’s degree in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1984.

While studying at JNU College she met a man named Parakala Prabhakar and fall in love with him. Later both of them tie the knot in 1986. Her husband’s family belongs to the Congress political party. After marrying she didn’t stop her education and engaged in a program for a Ph.D. degree in economics that focuses on the Indo-European textile trade. Later on, she moved to the London School of Economics to complete her study of Ph.D.

In 1986 she Married Parakala Prabhakar whose family belongs to Congress political party background. The couple lives their life happily and gives birth to a girl child named Parakala Vangmayi.

Nirmala Sitharaman Husband:

Parakala Prabhakar born on 2 January 1959. He is a political economist as well as a communications strategist. He tied the knot to Nirmala Sitharaman in 1986. He completed his doctorate from the London School of Economics. He did his master’s degree in Arts and philosophy from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi where he met his lifelong partner Nirmala Shitharaman. They both tied the knot in 1986. He held Cabinet rank position in Andhra Pradesh Government between 2014-2018.

Vangmayi was born on May 20, 1991, in Chennai. She did a bachelor’s as well as a Master of Arts in English Literature from Delhi University. After completing his graduation she moved to the United States to pursue journalism. She has a specialization in photojournalism. Despite from being a well-known family, she used to be behind the camera instead of in the limelight. She used to write for the Mint Lounge. On 7th June 2023, she tie the Knot to the Prateek Doshi.

Before entering into the era of politics she was living a simple life and worked at a home decor store in London called Habitat. After that, she serve as an assistant officer to an economist in the Agriculture engineers association in the United Kingdom. Then between 2003 to 2005, she worked as Senior Manager at the Price Water house coopers and Member of the National Commission of Women.

When she was in United Kindom she also worked as a senior manager for the PWC at the BBC World Service. In 2006 the day come when she step into the political party by joining the BJP. After joining the BJP she was appointed as a National speaker in 2010.

A turning point come into her life when BJP won the 2014 election and she was appointed as a junior minister in the cabinet of the prime minister. This was not the end of her career an opportunity arrives at her door and she got elected as the MP for the Rajya Sabha for Andhra Pradesh in 2016.

On September 6, 2017, Nirmala Sitharaman was appointed as the Minister of Defence, making her the second woman to hold this position in India’s history.

Lastly, The biggest opportunity that she got on 31 May 2019 was to become India’s first women to hold the position of Finance Minister of India.

• In 2019 The Jawaharlal Nehru University awarded her with the Distinguished Alumni Award.
• Forbes Magazine regarded her as the 34th most powerful woman in the world.
• She is the first finance minister in India who deliver the longest budget speech on 1^st Feb 2023. Which is of about 2 hours and 40 minutes.
